5 Fragen an Bombay

Bei Bombay denken die meisten an den Bombay Gin oder an OK KIDs „Bombay Calling“ – tstststs, immer ist der Alkohol an erster Stelle. Mir fällt spontan noch die indische Hauptstadt ein, die jetzt Mumbai heißt. Bombay – so oder so ein witziges Wort. Mehrmals hintereinander gesagt, klingt es ein bisschen komisch. Nun ja, Bombay ist aber auch der Bandname einer holländischen Band. Verrückt. Und die klingen halt schon echt gut und es wäre fatal, sie nicht vorzustellen…

1. Who are you?

We’re Bombay, a Lo-fi indie band from Amsterdam consisting of Lisa on drums, Gijs on bass and Mathias on guitar and vocals.

2. How would you describe yourself in 5 sentences?

Lo-fi indie band.

Always trying to balance strong melodies with more alternative production.

Two guys, a girl but no pizza place.

Heavily influenced by 90’s music, but don’t mind a little Beyoncé from time to time.

Show your teeth.

3. Tell me your latest news?

We’ve just released our new record (Show Your Teeth) a couple of months ago and have been touring France, Germany, Belgium and Holland since that time. And we’ve just come back from a trip to the U.S. where we played a couple shows, including Northside Festival in Brooklyn.

4. What kind of musicians do you look up to?

It kind of differs between the three of us, but I think we all like bands such as Sonic Youth who brought something new to the table and where all the players have a unique quality and vision that they incorporate in their parts.

5. Your favourite album or song at the moment?

In New York we played with this band from Washington called Flasher, and their self-titled record is really good. Check them out!

Aus Bombay Show Pig wurde einfach nur Bombay. Ja, so hießen die drei aus Amsterdam vorher. Sie spielten sogar schon auf dem Nürnberg.Pop Festival. Ein Besetzungswechsel am Schlagzeug später tauchen Bombay, musikalisch verändert, wieder auf. Sei es auf den Festivalbühnen Europas (Sziget, c/o pop Festival und Reeperbahn Festival, um nur ein paar zu nennen) oder auf dem Schirm der Musikpresse und meinen.

Ich verfolge immer die Taktik, irgendwelche interessant klingenden Bands auf Facebook zu liken und tauchen sie dann mal auf meiner Startseite, äh Newsfeed, auf, höre ich mir mal die Musik an. Ich like auch eher nur, um sie nicht zu vergessen. Bombay ploppten also mehrmals auf meinem Newsfeed auf und den Rest kann man sich ja denken. Die Taktik hat funktioniert.

Auf ihrer Webseite unten steht „Indie Rock Band Amsterdam“. Dem kann man fast nix hinzufügen und nur zustimmen. Sie sind Indie, dieser gitarrenlastiger und ohne elektronischer Einflüsse Indie. Klassisch Gitarre, Bass, Schlagzeug – fertig aus. Eine Indie Band nicht nur für die Indiemädels dieser Welt, wie KYTES. Sondern eine Band für Indiemädels, die mit ihrem Indiefreund aufs Konzert gehen. Ihr aktuelles Album „Show Your Theeth“ hat an manchen Stellen etwas Trotziges, Dreckiges und klingt für mich auch britisch.

Diese Mischung gefällt mir, richtig gut sogar! Mein Indiemädelherz liebt Bombay!
