Mit ihrem Song “My Friend Has A Swimming Pool” hat Newcastles anglo-italienisches Sommer/Sonnenschein-Quartett zuerst die Insel erobert. Jetzt sind wir dran. Beziehungsweise ihr, denn unsere Matilda liegt MAUSI schon zu Füßen. Und hat dem Duo fünf Fragen gestellt. Verliebt hat sie sich dabei auch noch.

Who are you?
We are Mausi; half Italian, half English. Two of us (Thomas and Daisy Finetto) are from Milan and two (Benji Huntrods and Ben Brown) from England. We met at university and started writing music together after a trip we took back to Italy for a weekend together. We filmed everything we did that weekend, edited it in to a 3 minute clip and decided to write a soundtrack to it. This is how we wrote ’sol‘ and how we found our sound and what we wanted to write about.

How would you describe yourself in 5 sentences?
We are the soundtrack to a young european escapist summer. We try to write music that allows people to get lost in the moment and feel good. Mausi means ‚darling‘ or ‚honey‘ in German, it’s a pet name given to a girl, we love that, it describes the feel of the band really well. We think the imagery of the band is just as important as the music, we live in a visual society, music can be so much more than just the song. We believe that: ‚Life may not be the party we hoped for… But while we’re here we should DANCE‘.

MAUSI MAUSI habe ich per Zufall entdeckt und mich sofort in ihre aktuelle Single “My Friend Has A Swimming Pool” verliebt. Anfangs erinnerte mich der Song von der Stimmung und ein wenig wegen der Stimme an einen Katy Perry Song. Doch den Gedanken habe ich schnell wieder verworfen! Das Lied läuft schon die ganze Zeit bei mir im Hintergrund.

Tell me your latest news?
We are just about to release a single called ‚My Friend Has a Swimming Pool‘. It is about those parties you had when you were 16/17 at your friends house when their parents were away; staying up till the sun rises, messing around and get drunk for the first time. It comes out on the 20th of July and it’s a real summer song. If you haven’t got it on your summer playlist, put it on.

What kind of musicians do you look up to?
We all listen to different types of music. It depends on what mood we are in or what kind of song we want to write. In general we listen to a lot of French producers like Yuksek and Breakbot. Phoenix were our first main source of inspiration and continue to play a big part in the sound we have. We also love a bit of r’n’b like Jhene Aiko, Childish Gambino, Kanye and Pharrell. In general we will listen to any music that will get us in a good mood.

Your favorite album or song at the moment?
We love the track Deezy Daisy by Portland, the Oxford remix. We are always making mix-tapes and playlists and this one has been on the last few. It just feels so right.

Bis jetzt gibt es von MAUSI noch nicht viel zu hören. Genauer gesagt sind es vier Songs, die man sich auf ihrer Soundcloudseite anhören kann. Doch die vier arbeiten schon fleißig an ihrem Debütalbum, welches noch dieses Jahr erscheinen soll. Man kann also schon gespannt sein…
Mir gefällt die Musik von MAUSI richtig gut! Besonders ”My Friend Has a Swimming Pool” hat es mir angetan. Das wird mein Soundtrack zum Sommer! Mir fehlt zwar noch der Freund mit dem Pool, aber den find ich bestimmt noch… Die anderen Songs wie “Move” oder “Sol” gefallen mir auch sehr gut! Die Lieder sind alle so schön peppig und tanzbar. Selbst ihr Cover von ”Hideaway” klingt nicht nach dem Original, sondern eher nach einem MAUSI Lied. Sie schaffen es, jedem Lied ihren eigenen Stempel zu verpassen, und das find ich gut.
