5 Fragen an Aquilo

Warum haben Strände, sobald es regnet, immer etwas Melancholisches an sich? Warum strahlen schwarz-weiß Bilder von Stränden auch nicht Freude, Sommer, Sonne pur aus? Aquilo spielen förmlich mit diesen Assoziationen in meinem Kopf, sowohl mit ihrer Musik als auch mit ihrem EP-Cover.
Aquilo stellen sich euch erstmal in den „5 Fragen an“ vor:

1. Who are you?
We’re Aquilo, from the Lake District in England.

2. How would you describe yourself in 5 sentences?
We’re two young guys that started making and writing music together a few years ago. We’re both from a small village called Silverdale. We feel very lucky and humble to be able to write the songs we love making and to actually have people responding to it.

3. Tell me your latest news?
Our new EP is out in May! We’ve also just announced our biggest show to date at London Village Underground on Tuesday 23rd June.

4. What kind of musicians do you look up to?
We both used to be in Rock bands so our influences and idols aren’t really people that anyone expects. Ben looks up to the likes of Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac and Nirvana and Tom is really into Radiohead and PinkFloyd.

5. Your favourite album or song at the moment?
We’ve both had Radioheads ‘In Rainbows’ on a fair bit recently. The new Kendrick Lamar album is something pretty special too. Actually, Fleetwood Mac Rumours. Tough question!

In ihrer Heimat haben sie schon den Geheimtippstatus erreicht. Hier und da werden sie bei BBC Radio 1 gespielt, es gab einen Auftritt auf dem Glastonbury Festival letztes Jahr und für die kommende Festivalsaison stehen The Great Escape in Brighton oder das Melt Festival auf dem Programm.

Musiker und Bands werden immer miteinander verglichen, mal passender, mal weniger passend. Für mich haben Aquilo etwas schnulzig-melancholisches. Wie Years & Years, nur gefühlvoller. Dazu passen auch die Bilder in meinem Kopf: einsam am Strand spazierend, das Meer unruhig, es windet und regnet. Ich bin übrigens an der englischen Küste und … Jetzt schweife ich aber ab! Während ich also natürlich nicht am Strand spaziere, sondern am Schreibtisch sitze und ihre Musik im Hintergrund läuft, bin ich fast hypnotisiert. Ich höre einfach nur zu. Höre auf zu denken. Sitze da und lasse ihre Lieder auf mich wirken.
