5 Fragen an SAFIA
Vorfreude ist doch bekanntlich die schönste Freude. Klingt in manchen Situationen blöd, wenn man das von den Eltern vor dem Geburtstag oder Weihnachten gesagt bekommt. Doch sie haben Recht. So sehr habe ich mich auf dieses „5 Fragen an“ gefreut, wie schon lange nicht mehr. Ich habe Safia entdeckt und wusste sofort, die müssen vorgestellt werden. Also hab ich mich rangemacht, angefragt und es hat etwas gedauert, aber jetzt sind die Antworten da. Besser spät als nie (tut mir leid, ich kann es mit den Sprüchen nicht sein lassen).
1. Who are you?
We are a band called SAFIA consisting of three members (Michael, Ben and Harry) 🙂
2. How would you describe yourself in 5 sentences?
This is a question we find difficult to answer as we have so many different influences inspiring different sounds into our music. Because of this each song is vastly different, however there is a theme and style that runs throughout all of our songs! Imagine James Blake making love to Skrillex whilst listening to funky jams. You could also listen to our music and see what YOU think!
3. Tell me your latest news?
We have finally released an EP (Embracing me EP) in Germany which is very exciting for us as we love the country! Some of our favourite shows have been played in Deutschland, hopefully we will be back soon!! We are also trying to complete an album back home which hopefully you all will hear in the near future!!
4. What kind of musicians do you look up to?
We look up to musicians who like to experiment and push the boundaries of what’s considered popular. We also like artists who don’t follow trends, for example Flume has always been an artist that remains true to himself and writes completely in his own style.
5. Your favourite album or song at the moment?
Favourite song right now would have to be ‘Worry’ by Jack Garrat an English Producer multi-instrumentalist. All his songs are masterpieces but this one really stands out at the moment, the production is fantastic and the song has such a swaggy loose feel that is so hard to get right! Not to mention the complexity and beauty of his songwriting. He is a super musician.

Da sitze ich also mit meinen Antworten, tippe den Artikel und ich merke wie plötzlich SAFIA in Deutschland ankommen. Nicht wortwörtlich. Radiosender wie egofm spielen auf einmal „Make Them Wheels Roll“. Ich dachte, ich höre nicht richtig. Warum?
Dafür muss ich wieder die Länderkarte ziehen. Ich weiß, dass muss total langweilig sein. Aber manche Länder kann man nicht richtig greifen, wenn man sie noch nicht bereist hat. So geht es mir jedenfalls. Australien ist für mich gefühlt so weit weg wie der Mars von der Erde. Was passiert denn da unten? Musikalisch gesehen viel! Ich sag nur Chet Faker oder San Cisco.
Doch es gibt noch mehr, als nur die beiden. SAFIA zum Beispiel. Ausverkaufte Shows und ein Publikum in Ekstase gehören fast schon zum Alltag und hier in Europa fragt sich wahrscheinlich jeder: „Wer ist SAFIA? Muss ich die kennen?“ Eh ja!
Deswegen bin ich so erstaunt und froh darüber, dass die drei jetzt langsam aber sicher auch mit ihrer Musik nach Deutschland kommen. Das heißt für uns mehr Konzerte. Juhu! Obwohl sie letzten Oktober schon dem Stereo ein Besuch abgestattet und ihr Publikum verzaubert haben. Ich mittendrin, völlig begeistert.
Freunde, ihr merkt, ich bin Fan! Das kann ich auch nicht verstecken und höre seit dem ich „Make Them Wheels Roll“ auf Soundcloud, bevor es auf 30 Sekunden reduziert wurde, rauf und runter. Ist auch mein Lieblingslied. Mir gefällt, dieses trotzige und soulige in Harrys Stimme und die Effekte mit denen sie spielen. Ich bin jedes Mal wieder baff, wie hoch er kommt. Und das ist kein Effekt! Ich lasse beim Mitsingen den Teil immer aus und summe nur mit. Das möchte ich meinem Umfeld nicht zumuten. Ihre Musik ist sehr elektronisch und ich bin da anfangs immer sehr vorsichtig, bis ich mir meine Meinung gebildet habe. Doch bei SAFIA ging es ratz fatz. Da musste ich nicht lange überlegen – ein gutes Zeichen.
SAFIA – drei sehr nette Jungs aus Australien, die doch hoffentlich bald wieder, mit neuem Album im Gepäck, nach Deutschland kommen!
