5 Fragen an The Fjords

Wenn man aus dem hohen, kalten und dunklen Norden kommt, beeinflusst das die Musik? Wie ist das, wenn es den ganzen Winter dunkel bleibt und die Sonne nicht aufgehen mag? Da bleibt einem ja fast nix anderes übrig, als zu musizieren.
So wie auch The Fjords. Die kommen aus diesem düsteren Norden, besser bekannt auch als Norwegen, und sie haben mir meine 5 Fragen beantwortet:

1. Who are you?
I am Petter Vågan, singer, songwriter and guitarist in The Fjords. Hailing from the northern part of Norway.

2. How would you describe yourself in 5 sentences?
Let´s see, I have an inquisitive nature. Restless and self-going. Combined these three features have led to a string of interests, hobbies and explorations. Leaving me knowing a little about a lot. Music has been a constant since childhood though.

3. Tell me your latest news?
Lots of stuff is happening at the moment! We’ve released a single and a music video internationally, and we´re really excited about all the feedback. We´re rehearsing a lot with the band, feels good to get deep into the live show and make it pop. Also, we´re looking at our next international release – so stay tuned!

4. What kind of musicians do you look up to?
Ah, good question. I look up to musicians and people with a sincere wish to communicate content. People with a story, an angle or a quest even. That give you an eye opener in any way, and make you look differently at your everyday life, even if it´s only for a second. People that manage to re-enchant reality. And people that don´t settle, but keep on searching. If we´re namedropping: People like David Bowie, Thom Yorke, John Coltrane, Aphex Twin, Bjørk, Glenn Gould, Frank Ocean, James Blake, Jimi Hendrix, Sidsel Endresen, Jeff Buckley, Stian Westerhus, Ian Curtis. The list is long, I´ll leave it there.

I´ll name a few.

Also been listening to Kendrick Lamars excellent new album, along with the rest of the world. Alabama Shakes and D´Angelo. To name a few.

Der Titel „All In“ beschreibt das Gefühl ganz gut, das ich dabei empfinde, wenn ich The Fjords Musik höre. Ich bin komplett in der Musik drin, denke an nichts anderes und lasse mich auf die Stimmung ein. Er klingt düster, erhaben ja fast majestätisch und verkörpert eine leichte Weltuntergangsstimmung. Vielleicht liegt es auch gerade daran, dass es gerade stürmt, wenn ich aus dem Fenster blicke.

Das Musikvideo dazu feierte schon weit mehr über 170.000 Views und das nicht ohne Grund! Nichts für schwache Nerven, wenn der Junge mal so eben durch die Gegend schießt, die Blutspritzer noch im Gesicht und das alles mit den treuen Computerspielen an der Seite.

Es ist der Vorbote auf ihr kommendes Debütalbum „Silhouettes“, das dieses Jahr noch erscheinen wird. „All In“ hat mich in seinen Bann gezogen und ich kann es kaum erwarten zu hören, was ihr Debüt alles zu bieten hat.
