Geschmacksfragen: Shred Kelly

Your current favourite Song?

My current favourite song is “Thinking of a Place” by The War On Drugs.  It’s a slow burning chill song with a retro linear groove that cruises on for 11 minutes. I love the guitar tones, dead drums, and floaty synth layers. I listen to this song when I’m driving, or just lounging around the house.

Your current favourite record?

My current favourite record is ‘Gish’ by The Smashing Pumpkins. They’re second album ‘Siamese Dream’ has been my all-time favourite record since I was a teenager, but recently I have been deep diving into their first album with so much pleasure. This album has all the things I like: stacked guitars to psychedelic riffs, the contrast of dreamscape ambience to thick fuzzed out agony. It is such a fun listening ride.

Your favourite place?

My favourite place is our home town Fernie, BC, Canada. We are a touring band living in a small town of just 5000 people in the Rocky Mountains. It’s not a great place to live when we are trying to have a music career, but it is a beautiful ski town with an amazing community that locked me in 15 years ago. When we go out on tour, we get to visit so many great cities around the world and see some amazing things, but when I come home to my little home in the mountains I feel very much at peace.

Your favourite drink?

COFFEE!! I love coffee so much. When I wake up in the morning I get very excited for my first big cup of coffee and then when my first cup is finished, I get excited for my second BIG cup of coffee. I will drink all types of coffee. Even the worst cup of coffee from a remote gas station in the middle of Saskatchewan is fine with me, if there are no other options. I used to drink my coffee with milk and sugar, but I recently switched to oat milk as I recently found out that I am lactose intolerant.

Your favourite food?

To go with my morning coffee, my favourite food in the world is a buttered bagel. I really like ‘Everything bagels’ because they taste the best, but I also love cinnamon raison bagels with butter as well. My second favourite food is croissants, and my third favourite is chicken pot pie.

What you’d like to read about yourself but hasn’t been written about you yet?

I suppose I would like to read about how hard we have worked over the last 14 years, and the challenges we have overcome to still be a band today, especially when we are not living in a big city close to the music industry, and now with a child on the road with us (Sage and myself have a daughter) It is not an easy way to make a living and many people don’t understand what it takes to be a touring musician and maybe don’t respect it as a career. As we are seeing our incomes shrink more and more with the constant changes to the industry I am very proud that we can still make it work. I love performing music to people and can’t imagine doing anything else.

Thank you for the Answers!
