Geschmacksfragen: Thomas Meilstrup

Your current favourite Song?

My favorite song at the moment must be “Never gonna be alone” by Lizzy Mcalpine, Jacob Collier & John Mayer. I think it’s such a great tune – I love how refined the lyrics are… at the end of the day it’s a song about love and affection, but it’s put together in such a poetic manner, that it has a new and refreshing feel to it… On top of that I think the merge of those 3 artists together is on point! Lizzy’s velvety vocals on top of those spicy Collier progressions is really special and John Mayer’s unbeatable guitar sound – YEEES!!!

Your current favourite record?

My favorite record at the moment is a rather old one but nonetheless a masterpiece if you ask me and it’s “Hejira” by Joni Mitchell… In general I love Joni’s songs and way of writing, but this album in particular is so touching… The whole album is about the loneliness she experienced touring non-stop in the late 70s and the whole album is written while being on the road and in the middle of those emotions… I really feel it creeping under my skin – I have it on CD in my car and regularly listen to it when driving…

Your favourite place?

My favorite place in the whole world is the area and hills around my childhood home near Ramløse and Tibirke in north sealand in Denmark. The nature here is so beautiful and mesmerizing and I remember exploring and playing around as a child always feeling like I was in some ancient landscape with no civilization around… Since I moved to Copenhagen I like to come back here and just wander around – the silence and peace is something I find inspiring for my mind to wander off and to spark creativity.

Your favourite drink?

If we’re talking about alcoholic drinks – a nice cold gin hass always does the job… I know it’s not particularly a drink, but I also really love good Italian wine and and elderflower juice!

Your favourite food?

my favorite food?!… oh I absolutely love and live for good food, so it’s so hard to choose! But if I had to, it’s probably gonna be danish smørrebrød… it’s these open-faced sandwiches on rye bread with all sorts of fish, shrimp and vegetables! If it’s made properly, it’s other-worldly tasty and delicate!

What you’d like to read about yourself but hasn’t been written about you yet?

Hmm that’s a good question…well I guess I could say that I’m much of a nature person… fearing that I might sound like a 70-year-old, I must admit one of my favorite summer and fall activities is to go mushroom hunting in Denmark and Sweden… there’s something so soothing about just walking in the woods the whole day and then coming home with free food – biggest win ever!! And also I’m a beast on a badminton court!
