5 Fragen an Fieh

Ich könnte ganz reißerisch dieses „5 Fragen an“ damit beginnen, dass Elton John von dieser Künstlerin begeistert ist. Er liebt sie, wie er in seiner Radio Show „Elton John’s Rocket Hour“ verriet. Nun gut, wenn Elton John das sagt, muss das ja stimmen. Der Mann hat ja Geschmack.

Könnte ich. Am Ende des Tages will ich nur etwas teasern, obwohl Fieh das gar nicht nötig habt, aber lest selbst.

1. Who are you?

I’m Sofie, I’m 23 years old and I created the band Fieh.

2. How would you describe yourself in 5 sentences?

(Here comes some looooong sentences!)
When I was maybe 9 I heard «Shake a Tail Feather» by Ray Charles in the movie the Blues Brothers and I really liked it, but my dad was the trainer of the soccer team so I played a looooooot of soccer and some piano.

I asked my brother to teach me some drums and I sat with some casseroles or something at the loft at home, and then I asked him to teach me some bass, he taught me the bass line for «Brown Sugar» by D’Angelo in our basement.

I heard «Undun» by the Roots and I tried to make some music similar to it in Garageband, then we played «Edith and the Kingpin» by Joni Mitchell in school and I thought oooooh I want to sing like that and make songs like that.

Four years ago I was lucky enough to find a bunch of people who wanted to play music with me, and we have been checking out music, learning about music and developing our own music together ever since, and they’re my best friends now, and also some of the best musicians I know.

And besides that, I like to watch MasterChef Australia, traveling and learning new languages.

3. Tell me your latest news?

Our single «25» was released on Friday February 9th, hooray! And now I know we’re playing a lot of live shows this summer which will be a dream come true.

4. What kind of musicians do you look up to?

All the musicians in my band, Outkast, Joni Mitchell, Erykah Badu, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Alice Coltrane, Kendrick Lamar, Lauryn Hill, J Dilla, Madlib, D’Angelo, Jeff Buckley, Frank Ocean, Flying Lotus, Questlove and the Roots, Prince, Elena Pinderhughes, Miles Davis, João Gilberto.

5. Your favourite album or song at the moment?

I’m back on good kid, m.A.A.d city, I rediscover that album every once in a while – I get really nostalgic listening to it. And «California» by Joni Mitchell.

Erst letztes Jahr im Oktober veröffentlichte sie ihre Debütsingle „Glu“ und sammelte schon die ersten Lorbeeren ein. Berechtigt. Jetzt im Februar folgte die zweite Single „25“ und die Lobeshymnen hören nicht auf. Auch hier wieder berechtigt, denn das hier ist die nächste.

Es gibt so Songs, die sind wie die beste Freundin/ bester Freund oder die Bettdecke. Sie empfangen einen mit einer dicken Umarmung und geben einem ein wohliges Gefühl. Man fühlt sich einfach gut. So war das auch mit Fieh.

Zum ersten Mal „25“ gehört und schwupps hatte ich dieses Gefühl. Als würde Fieh das Lied nur für einen singen. Das ist einfacher ein guter Song, der so schön lässig daherkommt. Lässig, schlicht, aber dennoch oho. Perfekt also zum Brunchen und definitiv in meiner Brunchplaylist!

Aber auch „Glu“ hat diese Lässigkeit, selbst ihr Drake „Hotline Bling“ Cover klingt gut. Auch, wenn bis jetzt nur zwei Singles veröffentlicht sind, schafft es Fieh jedem Song das gewisse Etwas zu geben. Es ist die Mischung aus besagter Lässigkeit gepaart mit Soul, eine Prise Pop und Hip Hop. Hier und da mal noch ne Trompete und fertig ist der Hit. In der Theorie, mal sehen wie die nächsten Tracks von der jungen Dame klingen werden…
